Stopping the cycle

A couple of months ago our friend sent us a frantic email about 2 kids in our neighborhood knocking on her door and begging for help because their dog just had puppies but the landlord said the 11 puppies and the 2 parent dogs had to go ASAP or he was calling the pound. I spent all day trying to figure out a place for them to go, but the boys never came back. Well, 2 weeks later, we get a knock at our door from a young teen saying he had 11 puppies that were 2 weeks old he was keeping in his dad's shed, but they had to go. We agreed to help him, but again, he never came back. A few days later on St. Patty's Day, i was helping animal control round up a pack of feral dogs and the officer I was with got a call about 2 pit bulls in an abandoned house. He asked if I wanted to go on the call with him, my gut told me it was the boy. Sure enough, we pulled up and looked in the window and there was the boy with the 2 parent dogs and 11 puppies.

The dad was already neutered, but Diamond will go back to the teen once she is spayed. We have been caring for the puppies for 6 weeks and Karree has decided to let us adopt some of them out. All the puppies and Diamond will be spayed/neutered this week. Diamond had all of her shots updated so she could be in a foster home and the puppies have all gotten their first round of vaccines, plus deworming. They get their 2nd round of vaccines and deworming this week as well. Diamond and her pups go through almost 2 large bags of dog food per week. Caring for Diamond and her pups has really taken a huge chunk out of our rescue funds and we also had another foster dog with a big bill in April for heartworm treatment. The dad dog also had a big vet bill after being attacked by an off leash dog. We do not normally do Chip Ins, but we could really use the help with donations right now so that we can continue to help dogs through our out reach program and get them fixed so that this vicious cycle of unwanted pit bulls does not continue. Even $5 adds up quickly and any size tax deductible donation is greatly appreciated.
